Australian politicians and our defence department are always at their most deadly and damaging to industrial capacity when they are making acquisition decisions. When, for example, Australia decided to buy what was then called the TFX (and later the F-111) rather than the British aircraft called the TSR2, we did more to destroy the British aircraft industry than Nazi Germany had managed to achieve during World War II.
