The word indie pop gets thrown around reasonably frequently these days and sometimes perhaps a little liberally. Not so here. These guys seem crafted for FM alternative radio, but take the fun, fashionable pop component relatively far without sounding immediately commercial.
With heaps of synth and guitar, everything is glossy and well produced courtesy of Tony Hoffer (Beck, Ladyhawke, Air), and there is a positivity to the tracks that make you want to keep listening, if only to hear what is coming next.
Indebted to the 1980s, catchy songs like 16 Years, Right on Track and If You Wanna Stay leave you respecting the work on this excellent debut. Across a range of tempos and styles, what this does, it does impressively well.
