McConnell completed the fairytale comeback after spending a year out of competitive racing after losing motivation to compete at the highest level.
The event was made up of two races, a short track and cross-country event.
McConnell was unlucky with the results of her first short track race, after being caught in the middle of an accident involving riders ahead of her.
"I am so frustrated about the short track today... A stupid crash by some [of the] girls in front [of me has] cost me big time." McConnell said via Instagram.
Before the accident, McConnell was well placed looking at a result just outside of the top 10. The crash cost McConell a lot of time resulting in a 25th place finish.
McConnell was ecstatic with the result in the second race after coming back from a low as 40th position.
"A top 10 world cup on any day is a win, but my first world cup back after almost a year I am so happy with that," McConnell said.
"Enjoying the moment and result tonight, it was a roller coaster out there, one moment I felt like I was chasing for the podium and next minute I felt like I was holding onto my 8th spot for dear life."
