Defence Minister David Johnston was lavish in his praise of the F-35 fighter jet after Wednesday's announcement that the federal cabinet had committed to buying 58 of the aircraft – on top of the 14 that the Rudd government pledged to buy in 2009. ''There's nothing else on the market that has the capability, the capacity, the cutting-edge technology that this brings to the game,'' Senator Johnston said.
