Federal police commissioner Tony Negus's son has quit the ACT's police force while embroiled in an internal probe and an investigation into a motorbike crash linked with speeding.

The Australian Federal Police has also confirmed the commissioner sat in on an interview between local police and his son after the crash, but say he ''played no role'' in the separate professional standards investigation.
Mitchell Negus graduated as a probationary constable of ACT Policing in December last year, but lasted just five weeks in the force, resigning on January 15.
The young constable had never commenced active duty after his lengthy training period at the AFP's recruit college in Barton, due to injuries he sustained in a motorcycle crash.
That crash sparked a police investigation, after accident reports suggested he may have been speeding.
Police went to interview Mitchell as part of their routine post-accident investigation.
The commissioner sat in with his son as the officers conducted the interview, something the AFP says was done ''as his father''.
That interview was done at the home of both father and son, who live together.
Mitchell was also the subject of an internal investigation by the AFP's Professional Standards unit.
The exact nature of that internal investigation is unclear, but it is understood that it could be linked with the crash.
The AFP have denied that the commissioner played any sort of role in the internal investigation whatsoever.
Mitchell resigned from his role as a probationary constable during the investigation, which the professional standards unit has since completed.
The young probationary constable graduated with a group of 42 officers from two cadet classes at a ceremony in Barton in early December.
He and the other graduates were selected from a pool of roughly 4000 applicants, and trained for about 26 weeks with the AFP College.
At their graduation ceremony, the officers pledged to uphold the values of the AFP, including integrity, accountability, and trust.
Commissioner Negus spoke at the graduation ceremony, saying the new constables would be ''very much guided by a commitment to these values'' as they started their careers.
New graduates typically go through a two-week period of working with Traffic Operations and at the ACT Policing Watch House in Civic, before being assigned to different areas of the force.
Mitchell is understood to have worked as an AFP Protective Service Officer before joining ACT Policing.
