A warning to consumers in Canberra and NSW not to deal with fencing and decking contractor Matthew Rixon has been issued by NSW Commissioner for Fair Trading Rod Stowe.

Mr Stowe said Mr Rixon entered into contracts to supply and install fencing and decking. After the payment of a significant amount of the contract price, Mr Rixon either failed to complete the work or if any work were undertaken, it was defective.
A previous public warning under section 86A of the NSW Fair Trading Act was issued on May 23. Despite this, Mr Stowe said there was strong evidence Mr Rixon continued to trade in NSW and the ACT.
Mr Rixon operates through associated companies: Rixco Fencing; Rixco Group; Rixco Constructions; Deck A Day; and Quality Building Solutions. Mr Stowe said there was also evidence Mr Rixon had traded under business names: Affordable Fencing Solutions; Affordable Home Improvements & Maintenance Services. He might also operate under the alias Matt Geoffrey.
NSW Fair Trading had issued Mr Rixon with more than 28 penalty infringement notices worth $19,000 for breaches of the state’s Home Building Act.
‘‘The fines remain unpaid, while Mr Rixon continues to take money from consumers,’’ Mr Stowe said.
NSW Fair Trading continued its investigation into Mr Rixon and was working with its ACT consumer protection counter-part, the ACT Office of Regulatory Services. Comments have been sought but not yet obtained from that office.
