The council posted a statement on its website last night saying it had discussed the location of the proposed mosque with Gungahlin residents through its newsletters and online.
"Until recently there has been no suggestion that there are parking or traffic issues with the Valley Way site," the statement says."The Council still believes the site is an appropriate one for a Mosque and concerns about traffic will prove unfounded once the proposed ring road system is completed.
"The Council also had no objections to the siting of other religious institutions in the town centre and will continue to support the construction of a mosque on the site."
The ACT Government has received more than 50 submissions in response to Canberra Muslim Community Inc's development application to build a 500-seat mosque.
More than 30 submissions object to the development on grounds including traffic, parking, lack of consultation and claims the mosque is not "compatible with Australian values and Australian law".
However, a further 20 submissions urge the ACT Government to approve the development, some complaining about the anonymous anti-mosque campaign led by the group called the Concerned Citizens of Canberra.
