Premium packages will offer additional exclusive benefits, including access to the digital replica edition of the daily newspaper and interactive puzzles.
In a message to audiences and advertisers, managing editor John-Paul Moloney said the introduction of subscriptions for online access was an important step for The Canberra Times and demonstrated its continuing commitment to serve the national city.
"As our audiences increasingly read our journalism on their mobiles and other devices, we need to make sure we can deliver the coverage Canberrans expect and deserve," he said.
"Our new subscriptions will allow readers to choose the way they want to support The Canberra Times to continue providing the journalism that's been essential to the health and vitality of our city for almost 100 years."
From June 6, canberratimes.com.au will offer two subscription packages: premium and basic. Subscriptions can be paid monthly, or you will receive a 20 per cent discount if you sign up for an annual subscription.
The basic package will offer unlimited articles on any device for $3.75 a week if you pay monthly, or $3 a week if you sign up for an annual subscription.
The premium package will include unlimited articles at canberratimes.com.au, plus access to the replica edition of the newspaper - allowing iPad and tablet users to flip through every page of each day's paper and view articles as they appear in printed edition.
Premium subscribers will also enjoy access to interactive crosswords, Sudoku and trivia quizzes refreshed daily, plus exclusive events and special offers.
The premium package will cost $5.50 a week if you pay monthly, or $4.40 a week if you sign up for an annual subscription. Subscribers can save more with a two-year premium package, which costs only $3.85 a week - a saving of 30 per cent. You can only subscribe and pay at canberratimes.com.au from June 6.
Some website content will remain free to all visitors, including classified advertisements, such as birth and funeral notices, and recommended articles featuring local businesses.
Free newsletters and breaking-news alerts sent to your inbox make it easy to browse the latest headlines in news and sport, and to see what's on in the arts, entertainment and dining.
The changes at canberratimes.com.au will not affect the printed version of The Canberra Times, which will continue to be published seven days a week.
Existing newspaper customers with a seven-day-a-week home-delivery account will be advised in writing in the coming days of a special introductory offer for premium website access.
