Graeme Curran was found guilty by a jury in April of seven out of nine charges of indecent assault committed in the early 1980s when his victim was aged between 13 and 15.

The 69-year-old's trial heard he would sleep naked with the boy - whom he called his "little chicken" - and would perform a "ritual" on him each Saturday morning which involved massaging him and touching his penis.

Curran groomed him with presents and holidays. Four of the indecent assaults occurred during a sailing trip.

Curran was due to be sentenced in the NSW District Court on Thursday afternoon but his barrister, Georgia Lewer, said he was sick and in hospital.

Ms Lewer successfully applied for an adjournment - which was unopposed by the Crown - and tendered two medical documents from separate doctors.

The sentence - which Acting Judge Anthony Rafter was ready to pass - will instead be delivered on August 23.

The NSW chief magistrate's office has previously said Curran would remain suspended until all criminal proceedings had concluded.

Curran was sworn in as a magistrate in 2002 but suspended after he was charged in late 2017.

At a sentence hearing in May, Curran's victim said he was "revolted and sickened" by the impact of the crimes.

"While the physical acts have been impossible to forget, Graeme Curran's psychological manipulation of me proved crippling," the middle-aged man said.

"The stories and lies that were made to keep me silent, and the resulting emotional breakdowns of my late childhood, left me with a chronic sense of helplessness, changing the direction of my life monumentally."

Curran remains on bail.
