A South Coast police spokesperson said two Belted Galloway steers were being transported in Batemans Bay when they stopped at traffic lights at 9.30am.
They said one of the steers managed to push through the front door of the horse float and onto the streets in Batemans Bay, causing traffic havoc.
The steer eventually made its way to the Batemans Bay police station, where it entered the front doors into the public foyer.
The spokesperson said rural crime investigators from the South Coast Police District, Camden Police Area Command, Hume Police District, and Monaro Police District were conducting an unrelated operation in Batemans Bay at the time.
With the assistance of the Rural Crime Prevention Team, Batemans Bay Police, the owner of the steer and Eurobodalla Shire Council Rangers managed to yard the steer and reload him back onto the trailer uninjured.
