1. Whoa, Black Betty
The band from rural Australia who captured the attention of the nation, Spiderbait, returns to the site of their triumphant 2010 Stonefest appearance this Friday. See the band - still only 25 years young - as they perform hit songs like Black Betty, Buy Me a Pony and Calypso. Spiderbait will be supported by The Lazy Susans and Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers. Friday, 8pm, UC Refectory. Tickets from $39.80 from oztix.com.au.
2. Rising to the top
Hear from Canberra's leading female athletes on what it takes to reach Olympic and world champion standards. Be inspired by Olympic gold, silver and bronze medallist in rowing Kim Brennan, Angie Scarth-Johnson - who at the age of nine became the youngest person in the world to complete a complex grade 31 climb - as well as para-athletics star Sarah Walsh and WNBL and Canberra Capitals coach Carly Wilson. Saturday, 11am-noon, Canberra Centre. Tickets are $20 from Eventbrite. The event include a complimentary drink, grazing platter and a $20 Canberra Centre gift card.
3. Dine and dance
I have always said for a perfect time it must be filled with good friends, food, and dancing. And that's what DC Fit's Dance Degustation is all about. The event pairs dance styles with different food and drinks for one fun-packed afternoon. With two dance degustation options on the menu - a full-bodied (smooth) course featuring hip hop, heels and relaxation, and a sparkling (bubbly) course, with Zumba, barre body and heels - there is something for any dance lover. Saturday, 1.30-5pm, DC Fit in Phillip. Tickets are $40 from dance-central.com.au.
4. Merlot and mindful meditation
Wind down after a long week with wine and meditation. Be guided through three meditations in the first hour before grabbing a glass of red wine and talk about the benefits of meditation. Expect to walk away from this event feeling relaxed, connected and maybe even inspired to add more mindfulness to your life. Open to all meditation levels, beginners to advanced. Saturday, 5pm-7pm, Illeso Studio. Tickets are $36 from Eventbrite.
5. Hot diggity dog
They're one of the world's most recognisable dogs, and it's time to celebrate them in all their glory. To mark World Dachshund Day, the Canberra Dachshund Group will by hosting a walk through the Parliamentary Triangle. It will also be a chance to raise money for Dachshund Rescue Australia, and there will be sausage dog themed cupcakes for sale on the day. Non daschunds are welcome on the day.
