A large rink has opened in Civic Square as part of what the ACT government calls "Wintervention".
This year's innovation is a move from the previous location in Garema Place.
City Renewal Authority chief executive, Malcolm Snow, said: "Bring the kids for a skate, grab a hot drink and something to eat, listen to some live music, watch a 'stars on ice' performance and enjoy the winter Canberra weather."
Mr Snow said the move to Civic Place increases capacity, saying: "There will be more room to skate on a bigger ice skating rink than previous years, as well as more room to sit, sip and shop during our opening weekend event."
What there is unlikely to be in the next few days is that freezing feeling. The ice will be there on the rink but not anywhere else, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
It's forecasting minimums above freezing for the next three days - though the middle of next week should see a Canberra winter chill set in.
But still. It's winter, which has its traditions.
"Open-air ice skating has proven to be a very popular activity over the past six years and we think Canberrans will love the new set-up in Civic Square," Mr Snow said.
The mini-festival runs until July 21. Skating tickets start from $12 a session.
