Entries are now open for the Australian Book Review's 16th Peter Porter Poetry Prize. Judged by John Hawke, Bronwyn Lea and Philip Mead, it honours the life and work of Australian poet Peter Porter (1929-2010). First prize is $7000 and four other shortlisted poets will each receive $500. Entry is open to all poets writing in English, until midnight, October 1, 2019. Entries must be an original single-authored poem of not more than 70 lines written in English. The five shortlisted poems will be published in the January-February 2020 issue and the winner will be announced at a ceremony in January. australianbookreview.com.au
Sci-fi screenwriting
The 2019 John Hinde Award for Excellence in Science-Fiction Writing is now open for entries. It offers $10,000 for the best produced script and professional support for the best unproduced script. Entries close on Friday, August 9, 2019. More information and entries: awg.com.au
