Emergency crews were called out to Caswell Drive near Bandjalong Crescent about 7am after a car fire in one of the southbound lanes.
The fire was extinguished a short time later with no injuries reported.
About ten minutes later, a three-car crash happened just 300 metres away on Gungahlin Drive in one of the southbound lanes near the Belconnen Way intersection.
One person was inside each car during the incident.
All three were assessed by paramedics at the scene for minor injuries but were not taken to hospital.
The two incidents on the same road caused extensive delays for drivers, with traffic banked up for five kilometres.
Transport Canberra has said the incidents have led to delays of up to 30 minutes along the route.
Traffic authorities have warned drivers to avoid the area if possible.
