2. Look to the stars

If telescopes are not your thing, enjoy the food trucks - brought to you by Grease Monkey, Tikka Stand and Le Petit Breton - and admire the stars from the comfort of a picnic blanket. There will be vegetarian and gluten-free options, as well as free hot chocolate and marshmallows. Friday, 6pm. Fellows Oval, ANU. Free event.
3. The roaring 20s
When it comes to 1920s fashion, Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries is on the money. Join costume designer Marion Boyce, watch one of her favourite episodes from the murder mystery series, and take part in a Q&A. Boyce will discuss how she brought the characters to life - including the leading lady Miss Fisher (played by Essie Davis) - before she changed decades to work on the 1950s of The Dressmaker. Friday, 6pm. Arc Cinema, National Film and Sound Archive. Tickets are $10 from shop.nfsa.gov.au.
4. Take me to the lake
Have you ever swam in Lake George? Have you seen anything peculiar? Do you know the story about the speed race? Did you know that Werriwa is the Aboriginal name for Lake George? Join Tim the Yowie Man and hear some of his tales about the lake, on the eve of the 199th anniversary of the first European sighting of Lake George. Sunday, 10am. Lake George Winery. Tickets are $22.29 from Eventbrite and includes tea/coffee and morning tea. Kids are free.
5. Sip on science
See what goes on behind your favourite ethanol-based drink with taste testers, hands-on experiments and public talks at A Science Cocktail. Friday, 6pm. CSIRO Discovery Centre. Tickets are $6.36 from Eventbrite and include two drinks.
