The main burst around 12.10pm on Wednesday, affecting southbound traffic along the road.
All southbound lanes of the road were closed to traffic following the incident, with traffic diversions put in place.
The main was turned off by crews just after 2pm.
Emergency crews are on the scene directing traffic, and drivers have been advised to avoid the area.
Two of the three lanes were expected to re-open to traffic around 3pm, although one lane will remain closed while clean up work is carried out.
An Icon Water spokeswoman said eight homes around Campbell and Reid were affected by the burst main.
The spokeswoman said repairs were expected to take up to five hours.
Repairs are expected to take place during Wednesday afternoon's peak.
