Thousands of weekend buses have been cancelled since the new network was launched in late April, due to bus driver shortages.
The Transport Workers Union says it warned the government years ago the new network could not be serviced without significant recruitment before it began, which did not happen.
The Canberra Liberals moved a motion in the ACT Legislative Assembly on Thursday calling on the government to improve real time information about cancelled bus services.
The government agreed to an amended motion after changes from the Greens and Transport Minister Chris Steel.
That motion called on the government to release an action plan within one month that examined how more timely cancellation information could be provided to passengers.
It also calls on the government to consider short-term incentives for drivers to work weekends and to provide a timeframe for when weekend reliability will improve.
Opposition transport spokeswoman Candice Burch told the Assembly the government had continued to fob off the issues as teething problems. She said sometimes up to five weekend services in a row were being cancelled. Miss Burch criticised the Greens for watering down her motion, saying their amendments only called on the government to examine ways to improve information.

But Greens MLA Caroline Le Couteur said the Greens' amendments strengthened the motion and secured an urgent action plan to reduce weekend bus cancellations.
"The expanded bus network has left many passengers frustrated by weekend services that simply don't arrive when they should," she said.
"We've heard from many in our community that they rely on these buses to get to work, and to get around. For those working weekends, families, the elderly and those on lower incomes, it's been especially challenging.
"That's why the Greens are pleased today to have secured an urgent action plan from the government, that must be delivered within one month, that will immediately investigate a range of ways to improve the network experience on weekends." Transport Minister Chris Steel acknowledged the cancellations did not meet community expectations.
The government says it has hired bus drivers and continues to recruit more. Average weekend reliability is currently 89 per cent.
The bus network's performance has steadily declined since its launch, with recent weekend reliability hovering just above 80 per cent. During the first few weeks of the network the reliability was about 95 per cent.
