NSW Police said the man left the road and crashed into a street sign on the highway at Carwoola.
The man, who is believed to be 71, was treated at the scene and taken to Canberra Hospital in a critical condition, where he later died.
Monaro Police District officers are investigating the circumstances around the crash.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
