At the 2019 Art Music Awards, Canberra International Music Festival won the ACT Award for Excellence by an Organisation "for sustained creative excellence, exceptional growth and cultivation of Australian music". The NT Award for Excellence in a Regional Area went to Warren H. Williams, Canberran Michael Sollis and Barkly Arts for One Sky Many Stories, "inspiring audiences as they explore their relationship to the night sky, Indigenous culture and the world around us".
Come & Sing Messiah
Applications are now open for Canberra Choral Society's annual Come & Sing, when music-loving members of the Canberra community can join in rehearsing choral masterpieces, culminating with a performance with Handel's oratorio with a professional conductor, soloists and a full orchestra in Llewellyn Hall on November 23 at 7.30pm. 10am: The 13th people's choice SQUARES exhibition and Robert Riggs' Light in a Dark Place oil painting exhibition are on at Strathnairn Arts Homestead. SQUARES ends with a prize-giving event on September 8 at 2pm; Riggs' exhibition ends on September 15. strathnairn.com.au.

Metamorphosis
4pm: Franz Kafka's story, adapted by Steven Berkoff and directed by Adam Broinowski, is a comic tale of alienation in which Gregor (Dylan Van Den Berg) wakes up one morning to find he has turned into a giant insect. Before this performance at The Street Theatre will be Meet The Makers, a free pre-show conversation in the foyer at 3pm with artistic director Caroline Stacey and the creative team of Metamorphosis - director Adam Broinowski and designers Imogen Keen, Kimmo Vennonen and Andrew Meadows.
