Shaw made the announcement on Twitter on Wednesday evening.
"Canberra listeners, thank you for the last three and a half years on the Tim Shaw Breakfast Show," he said.
"New career opportunities have arisen. My time at 2CC has come to an end."
It's understood Shaw handed in his resignation to station management at least three weeks ago.
A replacement for the drive shift has yet to be announced, but the new presenter is expected to start in upcoming weeks.
The resignation comes just a month after Shaw was moved by station management from the breakfast slot to drive.
That move saw Sydney shock jock Alan Jones take over the shift, simulcasting his breakfast show broadcast on 2GB in Sydney into Canberra.
Jones has recently been under fire after comments he made saying Prime Minister Scott Morrison should "shove a sock down" the throat of New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
Multiple advertisers have pulled out of Jones's breakfast show in Sydney as a result.
News of Shaw's departure from the station prompted many tributes from listeners and Canberra politicians.
Canberra Liberals MLA Elizabeth Lee said on Twitter that Mr Shaw would be missed.
"Thank you for the banter and laughs during our interviews," she wrote.
Meanwhile, federal Defence Minister Linda Reynolds said: "You will be missed Tim."
Shaw joined the station in early 2016, taking over the breakfast shift after former host Mark Parton, who is now a member of the Legislative Assembly, stepped down in 2015.
The veteran journalist and broadcaster rose to prominence in the 1990s selling Demtel steak knives and popularising the catchphrase "but wait, there's more".
Shaw's radio show Legal Matters had been syndicated across Australian talkback stations before he joined 2CC.
