The editor of The Canberra Times, Grant Newton, said the fun run was a special community event that Canberra had embraced and enjoyed for more than four decades.
"The first fun run was held in 1976 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Canberra Times. It has been held every year since and it's our intention for it to continue long into the future," Mr Newton said.
Traditionally held at the end of September, this year's run will take place on November 10.
"It's been a busy period of change for The Canberra Times with new owners and Nine's divestment of Fairfax Events which had organised the run in recent years," Mr Newton said.
"It was always the intention of the new owners for The Canberra Times to continue hosting the fun run. We had to establish a new partnership with a company capable of running an event of this magnitude.
"I'm pleased to announce that Sole Motive - an experienced running event company and publisher of award-winning running and fitness magazine - Runner's World - has come on board as a partner and will run this year's fun run as well as the Australian Running Festival, to be held on April 4 and 5 next year."
Sole Motive chief executive Lisa Holmes said the company was thrilled to partner with The Canberra Times.
"This collaboration allows us to bring our success and passion in running and fitness events to the people of Canberra and to celebrate our shared commitment to putting on an incredible experience for the running community," she said.
The fun run will offer participants two, five and ten kilometre options with the course beginning at King Edward Terrace and taking in some of our national institutions before crossing the lake and finishing at Rond Terrace.
There will also be live music and children's activities to celebrate finishing the run.
Youth Olympic Games gold medallist Keely Small, who is hoping to qualify for her first senior Olympics in Tokyo next year, has been competing in The Canberra Times fun run since she was eight years old.
The St Clare's year 12 student has won the 5km event multiple times and in 2016, as a 14-year-old, was the first female runner to cross the finish line in the 10 km event.
"I started doing them because I enjoyed running and I could keep up with people over those longer distances," Ms Small said.
"It's something I look forward to every year, I love getting out there with everyone and I remember the surprised looks on everyone's faces when they saw a 10-year-old coming across the line in first place."
And some advice from the expert?
"Pace yourself, I learnt that the hard way. But the main thing is to just enjoy it and enjoy being surrounded by everyone around you doing the same thing. It's called a fun run for a reason."
The Canberra Times Fun Run is on November 10 beginning at 7.45am with staggered starts for each distance. More information and registration is available online.
