The Brumbies have signed Sydney University captain Guy Porter on a one-year deal ahead of their 2020 Super Rugby campaign.
The 22-year-old centre who can also cover wing and fullback will join the Brumbies as part of the club's wider training squad.
News of Porter's impending arrival in the capital comes weeks after he led Sydney University to a Shute Shield premiership win in a stirring grand final comeback.
"We don't just look at the player, we look at the character as well," McKellar said.
"Guy clearly has a good head on his shoulders and has already proven to be a quality young leader.
"To be named captain of a club like Sydney Uni at the age of 22 and lead them to a premiership tells us a lot about the quality of the individual we are bringing to the Brumbies.

"Guy has been a standout performer for Sydney Uni for a number of seasons now. He has the ability to cover a number of positions in the backline which adds genuine versatility to our group."
Porter will bolster the Brumbies' depth in the outside backs with McKellar still hunting for another front-rower and a lock to cover the loss of some key parts of the ACT's Super Rugby machine.
David Pocock, Christian Lealiifano, Henry Speight and Sam Carter are among those to leave a huge gap at Brumbies headquarters as the club looks to build on a semi-final appearance.
But their departures present an opportunity for emerging prospects like Porter to make a name for themselves.
"It's a dream come true," Porter said.
"I've worked for this goal for many years now, so to sign my first professional contract means the world to me and I'm just to grateful for the opportunity the Brumbies are giving me.
"Joining a club with this kind of history and standing in the game is a massive challenge for me, but it's something I'll relish and now all I want to do is get down to Canberra and get started."
