Cadeyrn Neville will make an Australian rugby comeback to link with the Brumbies, who will become the lock's third Super Rugby club.
The 30-year-old has spent the past two years in Japan following stints at both the Melbourne Rebels and the Queensland Reds.
But the Brumbies view him as a key piece of their 2020 recruitment to help fill the void left by Sam Carter (Ireland) and Rory Arnold (France).
Neville will join young guns Darcy Swain and Nick Frost, two-Test Wallaby Blake Enever and Murray Douglas in competing for starting spots in the Brumbies' second-row when the Super Rugby campaign begins.
His 202 centimetre, 120 kilogram frame will add the size the Brumbies crave and his almost 10 years of playing will give the Brumbies some lineout nous.
Brumbies fans peppered coach Dan McKellar with questions about the make up of next year's team at a forum on Wednesday night.
The club is searching for experience to step up in the absence of Arnold, Carter, Christian Lealiifano, David Pocock, Henry Speight and Josh Mann-Rea.
McKellar will need to find a new captain and a new playmaker and a new goal kicker when he ushers in the new generation.
Neville, who has been in Wallabies training squads but didn't get the chance to play a Test, will give the second-row stability as former Australian under-20s duo Swain and Frost begin their careers.
Swain and Frost are using the National Rugby Championship as their launching pad for Brumbies game time, with Swain also taking on the Canberra Vikings captaincy duties.
Frost played for the junior Wallabies at the under-20s world championships earlier this year and the former Canterbury Crusaders development player hopes he can make the leap to Super Rugby.
"The NRC is good experience ... a chance for players to make their mark and prove their point," Frost said.
"I've put on a bit of weight since coming back [from the under-20s], there's a lot more learning to go and seeing what standard I need to be at for Super Rugby.
"I've put on about four kilograms, I need a bit more on but it's helping in contact. I'm at 113 kilograms now and I'm hoping to get to 115 or 116.
"It's about being physical, but I like to play a running game a bit wider. You've still got to be there up front bashing some bodies as well."
The Brumbies are also expected to add 19-year-old Callum MacDonald to their development programs, while the club has been busy finalising deals for their main squad.
Issak Fines, Harry Lloyd and Will Miller have signed contracts in the past month to all but fill the roster.
