With skin soaked through to the bone and hair plastered to their foreheads, Wests came back from behind to claim their second successive title with an emphatic 4-1 win over Central at Lyneham Hockey Centre on Saturday.
The rivals battled through the elements and spectators were forced to move from the hill to the grand stand as rain plummeted down and flooded the field.
But the rain was a blessing in disguise for the eventual victors, who used the downpour to restructure their attack after a see-sawing opening half.
Central captain Matt Hotchkis was first to mark the scoreboard as he smacked the ball into the goal off a short corner variation early in the second quarter, but Wests struck back as Owen Chivers scored an equaliser minutes before the halftime break.

"The momentum wasn't there in the first half so we stuck it out and we took a break at halftime and really composed ourselves and came back strong," Gupte said.
"It started raining the second half and completely changed the dynamic of the game. The field got so flooded that the ball completely slowed down when you passed it on the ground.
"We really came together, sorted out the structure and how to overcome them."
Players were forced to adapt and improvise their attack as Carter Field filled with water, using aerial passes to move the ball across the pitch.
The match remained locked as the rain beat down until Wests' Brendan Laidley struck a crucial drag flick into the back of the net from a penalty corner to hand the club their first lead of the match.
Laidley fired another lethal ball in the fourth quarter to extend their lead to 3-1 in the fourth quarter.
Central pulled off veteran keeper Luke Black to reinvigorate their defense but Chivers closed down the match with his second goal and was eventually named player of the match.
"[Laidley and Chivers] played fantastic and changed the game for us," Gupte said.
"It was pretty close for both teams even though we won by three goals.
"It's such a great feeling. At the siren we just were really happy and hugged each other. I'm ecstatic."
Wests' victory comes after their second grade team defeated United 3-1.
"Everyone is getting around each other," Gupte said. "The Wests supporters really cheered us on."
Meanwhile ANU secured a second successive Capital League crown with a 5-4 victory over Tuggeranong Vikings in the women's decider.
