If you've always dreamt of building your own home, it can be hard to know where to begin. Between buying the land, settling on the architectural style and selecting a builder, there are a lot of components to coordinate.

This is why so many new homeowners find themselves wondering: what will it look like when it finally comes together?

The good news is, envisaging your dream home is now a breeze, thanks to one of Canberra's most anticipated residential developments, Ginninderry, and its display village with a difference.

Stretching from the north western suburbs of Canberra across the ACT/NSW border into a part of the Yass Valley, Ginninderry was initially designed to cater to contemporary Canberra's changing needs as a growing city.

To help home buyers get a sense for the lifestyle on offer, the residential development is applying this same level of innovation to its one-of-a-kind display village.

As of Saturday, October 26 GX - The Ginninderry Experience will be open to the public, promising to make residential development history with its never before seen features.

Unlike standard display villages, characterised by static open homes, Ginninderry Project Director Steve Harding says that The Ginninderry Experience provides a unique opportunity for potential buyers and builders to see the 'Ginninderry difference' in action.

"We set ourselves a challenge to deliver a display village with a difference - a place that inspires visitors and increases their understanding about what's possible when it comes to sustainability, modern design and smart planning," Steve said.

Characterised by its spectacular setting, Ginninderry was designed to cater specifically to modern living, featuring traditional blocks for family residences as well as compact designs for smaller households and individuals seeking lower-maintenance homes.

Given the development's commitment to keeping up with the changing times, it makes sense that its display village transcends the traditional model favoured by residential projects past.

For this reason, Ginninderry Marketing and Communications Manager Niva Pryor-who has been involved in the development of a number of traditional display villages-says The Ginninderry Experience boasts a much wider appeal than its peers and predecessors.

"Most display villages are simply a collection of new homes but we've taken that to a whole new level. The Ginninderry Experience, or GX, is a genuine experience that will appeal to those looking to build or buy a new home, but equally to those who are interested in the latest sustainability products," Niva said.

Redefining the shape of the display village for the better, GX will exhibit the latest in residential sustainability initiatives, and also offer access to a local arts trail. Turf and environmental control displays will also be on show, as well as a 'Mini-G' tiny house and 16 cutting-edge display homes.

For those who like to fully immerse themselves, an integrated mobile App has also been developed to further enhance the visitor experience.

The first of its kind for an Australian display village, the GX App allows you to undertake self-guided tours of Ginninderry homes, their sustainable features and a local art trial, all from the palm of your hand.

The digitisation of the display village not only plants seeds of inspiration, it also delivers added practicality to your residential project.

"The GX App gives visitors the ability to scan markers on favourite homes, products, features and art to unlock additional information and build their own favourites list," Niva said.

Whether you plan to explore the contemporary display village in person, or take a tour on your mobile device before you visit, The Ginninderry Experience promises to impress not only buyers and builders, but also lovers of design and sustainability.

GX opens to the public on Saturday 26 October at 10am. For more information visit ginninderry.com
