1. Windows to the World
Ever drive through Forrest or O'Malley and wonder what goes on behind those beflagged buildings? Beyond those big gates with official-looking crests on them?
Windows to the World is a rare opportunity to see behind the gates of the capital's embassies and high commissions.
See, taste and experience cultures from across the globe, or just enjoy the beautiful gardens and intricate architecture of some of Canberra's most iconic buildings.
Saturday-Sunday, 9am-5pm. Admission is free but bring cash for food and events.
2. Time to forage
It's that time of year again - the Spring Forage is upon us! The popular street party brings us the best in street food, including cafes, food trucks, wineries and breweries, with some entertainment and surprises thrown in.
Bring some friends, and celebrate the turn of season - it's been a long time coming!
Saturday from 2pm, Dairy Road Precinct.
3. Get retro with Stonefest
One of Canberra's most heritage of music events is back from the dead, and even in its own home again.
The institution that is Stonefest kicks of from 4pm at the UC Refectory, with a stellar lineup of bands from all over: British India, Ceres, Cry Club, Example (UK), FRITZ, Genesis Owusu, Japanese Wallpaper, Mallrat, Moaning Lisa, Ninajirachi, Pagan, RAAVE TAPES, RedHook, Sampa The Great, Skegss, Sputnik Sweetheart, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, Thelma Plum, and Young Monks.
Tickets on sale at stonefest.com.au. Mosh like it's the early 2000s again!
4. Or take it easy with buskfest
Or for something a little more... low-key, head over to Braddon for Canberra's very first Busking Festival.
Organised by the Braddon Collective, it's a day filled with music and performance in the vibey streets of the inner north.
There'll be a chance to vote for your favourite busker at the end of the day with special "voting coins", available at participating stores throughout the day. Tipping with actual money is, of course, encouraged.
Sunday 11am-7pm, on Lonsdale, Mort and Elouera Streets.
5. Oh Lordy, another marathon?
Of the rings, variety, that is. Palace Electric is holding an encore session (let that sink in - there was enough demand for a second go!) of the Lord of the Rings Marathon.
If you were off "battling the Balrog" or drinking mead the last time and missed out, or just really want to go in for seconds, the fellowship is gathering once more and heading to Mount Doom (otherwise known as Palace Electric in New Acton).
All three films are screening in their extended editions - 755 minutes in all - with just 20 minutes between each episode, so make sure you pack some serious snacks, wear something comfy and try not to covet anyone's jewellery.
Sunday, 10am. Tickets $25 at palacecinemas.com.au.
