Certainly as many lazy vowel sounds, and as much strine. Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart, the club's head of physical performance Nigel Ashley-Jones and football manager Matt Ford, fresh from taking the Green Machine to the finals, arrived in Beppu on Tuesday.

They linked up with the England squad and coach Eddie Jones for the squad's morning training session before swapping stories, insights and ideas over lunch at the team hotel.

Their arrival took to six the number of Australians tasked with helping England knock off the Wallabies and make their first World Cup semi-final since 2007.

Attack coach and former Parramatta Eels fullback Scott Wisemantel has been in bed with the enemy since May last year, while veteran sports scientist and performance guru Neil Craig has known Jones since his Wallabies days in 2003 but joined the England set up in 2017.

Michael Cheika has made his feelings clear about the linkage, calling it "weird" on Sunday.

Asked whether the England playing group found it "strange" to have so many Australians in camp ahead of a knockout World Cup match, defence coach John Mitchell - a Kiwi and former All Blacks coach - said there was nothing sinister about the invitation.

"I can see [how it could like like that] but we didn't know who we were going to have in our quarter-final and this had been planned for a while and we have people come in all the time," Mitchell said.

"You can dress it up anyway you want to but if you look at it from a realistic point of view, the planning for him coming was done a long time ago.

"Australia didn't know they would have England in the quarter-final and England didn't know either. That's the way I see it."

Jones confirmed on Tuesday that Stuart's arrival was locked in a month ago. Certainly, England were a 50/50 chance of meeting Australia in the quarter finals, depending on how Pools C and D settled.

But it is also true that Jones has a long history of inviting in top practitioners in their fields. Melbourne Storm coach Craig Bellamy spent time with the squad before the World Cup, while Irish football legend Roy Keane and Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson have also made appearances.

"They are very open about coming in and a lot of the boys speak to them and look to pick up things for their game," England outside back Elliot Daly said.

"They watch training and extras so it's good to ask them if they see anything that you could bring into your game. It's a good way of doing it and it's interesting to see what they've got to say."

As well as the day-to-day observations and interactions, England's Australian-New Zealand NRL import Ben Teo interviewed Bellamy in front of the team, while prop Kyle Sinckler quizzed Keane and Jones brought in veteran sports and motivational speaker Frank Dick to lead the conversation with Ferguson.

"It's actually a really good way of growing our players so that they are asking the right questions and also creates an informality where everyone can learn. A lot of players in this squad enjoy rugby league," Mitchell said.

"All of those people have talent and they work with talent but that is just the starting point. It is the ability to find more from yourself that is the hard work.

"Clearly the environments where they have been successful or they are leading, you understand that the work ethic is phenomenal and they create a resilience in the player and player group like no other teams. That is way they are successful."
