So he decided he wouldn't. He could lose them, or forget his contacts on game day, and it wouldn't matter. Because the Western District all-rounder opted for laser eye surgery instead.
It might take a few more weeks for him to be seeing cricket balls like beach balls again, but as for his bowling? No drama.
Bartlett's five-wicket haul led Westerns to a comprehensive seven-wicket win over Queanbeyan in the Cricket ACT Gallop Cup.
The Wests all-rounder claimed 5-15 from 7.5 overs as Queanbeyan crumbled for 77 at Jamison Oval on Saturday.
Bartlett misfired with the bat and was dismissed for two, but it mattered little as Matt Condon's quickfire 40 helped Wests ease past the target inside 16 overs.
"It hasn't helped my batting," Bartlett said.

"Sick of wearing contacts and glasses so I got it. I'm seeing the ball alright, but not hitting it so well. It's a lot clearer, I just can't seem to lay bat on it.
"It was nice to get a couple of wickets, I'm not getting any runs so it was nice to contribute somewhere in the game.
"The deck was doing a little bit early but we bowled pretty well I think. It was nice to roll them early and chase them pretty easy.
"It made for a short day, there were a few good races on in the arvo, so no complaints."
It is Wests' third win on the trot and leaves them as one of only two unbeaten teams after three rounds alongside defending champions Weston Creek Molonglo.
Creek cruised to a six-wicket win over North Canberra-Gungahlin after Robbie Trickett's unbeaten 112 led them to the target of 178 with 33 balls to spare at Stirling Oval.
"It's nice to get a couple of double bonus points again and consolidate our position on top of the ladder now," Bartlett said.
"We've had two double bonus point wins over the past two weeks so hopefully we can continue on with that sort of form.
"We lost three semis last year so hopefully we can actually carry it into a finals series this year.
"We've had a few new good young guys come through, Nick Broes and Josh Staines, both country kids that have come across and they've been really good for us so far."
Meanwhile, Eastlake opener Tom Henry's half-century (51 from 50) saw his side over the line in a tense four-wicket win over Tuggeranong Valley at Chisholm Oval.
Ginninderra's Owen Chivers hit an unbeaten 51 to get the Tigers over the line against his former team ANU with four balls to spare in a four-wicket win.
