Congratulations
Four Canberra-region artists - Tim Snowdon (Bungendore), Dennis Mortimer (Queanbeyan), Fiona Cotton (Canberra) and Brenda Runnegar (Hawker) - are among the 55 finalists in the $20,000 Eutick Memorial Still Life Award (EMSLA). The winner will be announced on November 8.

Bergman-Hitchcock
7.30pm: The Canberra International Film Festival is screening the film collaborations of director Alfred Hitchcock and star Ingrid Bergman. Spellbound (1945) has Bergman as a doctor trying to protect an amnesia patient (Gregory Peck) accused of murder. It features a dream sequence designed by Salvador Dali and a flash of red at a climactic moment. On Sunday at 2pm is the 1949 Technicolor film Under Capricorn in which Bergman plays a fallen aristocrat in colonial Australia. Arc Cinema, National Film and Sound Archive. October 31: The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA) - Canberra's former morgue - is having a horror-filled few weeks. After the Wedding (M): US remake of a Danish/Swedish film. Isabel (Michelle Williams), who runs an orphanage in India, goes to New York to meet a potential benefactor (Julianne Moore) and makes some surprising discoveries.
Beautifully Broken (M): Christian film in which an American family has life-changing encounters with Rwandan refugees.
Blinded by the Light (PG): In England in 1987, a teenager from an Asian family learns to understand his family and find his own voice through the music of American rock star Bruce Springsteen.
Cats (PG): Chinese animated film in which apartment-dwelling cat Blanket must venture into the world in search of his curious son Cape.
Pavarotti (M): Ron Howard-directed documentary about the life and career of opera star Luciano Pavarotti.
Promare (PG): Anime in which a futuristic firefighting mecha service is created to protect the world.
Promised (PG): Two young Italian children, Robert and Angela, are promised in marriage by their fathers and 21 years later are expected to follow through. Stars Paul Mercurio.
Ready or Not (MA): A young bride (Samara Weaving) joins her new husband's (Mark O'Brien) rich, eccentric family in a time-honored tradition that becomes a fight for survival.
