This year's event will showcase a bicycle-powered flour mill, solar ovens, plenty of farm produce, Canberra Seed Savers with lots of seeds, Canberra Native Nursery selling its wares, Act for Bees which is committed to the health of bees, chooks from Canberra Heritage Chickens, lots of food including home-made ice cream and vegan treats and a range of talks.
Canberra City Farm is a not-for-profit group, quietly working away since 2012 and collaborating with other like-minded organisations under the banner of Urban Agriculture Australia.
In 2015, the group secured a 10-year licence for the site on Dairy Road, Fyshwick to operate the actual farm and demonstration centre.
The farm continues to grow as a hub for urban agriculture and sustainability. The allotment gardens have expanded, Woden See-Change is revitalising an old shed into a passive house, a polytunnel greenhouse to raise seedlings has been constructed and disabled access to the site improved.
The farm has a range of allotments for Canberra Organic Growers Society-style gardening. The fee is $6 per square metre per annum.
There is also the chance to be part of the Adopt a Tree Scheme at the Dairy Road Farm, and learn how to control pests and diseases "using nature's little helpers" rather than chemicals.
There's more than 100 individual trees to choose from, including apricots, peaches, nectarines, quinces, plums, almonds, cherries, apples, pears, mulberries, feijoas and hazelnuts.
"Central to Canberra City Farm is demonstrating how people can grow and enjoy healthy foods, live sustainably and learn about how we can care for our environment, which in turns looks after us," spokesman said.
At the open day, there will be hourly farm tours, demonstrations and talks on how to make wicking beds, a rocket stove, worm farming and more.
