Local Business Awards was founded by Steve Loe almost 30 years ago and is spreading across Australia.

This is the first year that the Canberra Region is hosting their awards - a massive achievement given the size of the region.

The categories in each region vary in order to recognise the industries in the specific business community.

A selection of these categories include:

Automotive Services, Bakery/Cake Shop, Beauty Services, Butcher, Café, Child Care Services, Delicatessen/Gourmet Food, Education Service, Fashion Shop, Fast Food/Takeaway, Fitness Services, Florist, Fruit & Vegetable Shop, Hairdresser, Health Improvement Services, Home Furniture Store, Jewellery Store, New Business, Pharmacy, Pizza Restaurant, Professional Services, Real Estate Agency, Restaurant, Seafood Outlet, Service & Trade, Specialised Business, and Specialised Retail Business.

Each event also offers categories for outstanding operators and employees of businesses such as Business Person of the Year and Youth Award.

An overall category for each area is the Business of the Year selected from all the local category winners.

"The awards ceremony will be held at a great venue, with superb catering and excellent service so we're thrilled to have them on board as our venue," Mr Loe said.

"This year we have a spectacular event planned, with a master of ceremonies and amazing entertainment."

Mr Loe said the finalists also had another task ahead of them - planning what to wear to the presentation ceremony.

"Finalists tell us how much they and their staff look forward to the evening as an opportunity to enjoy each other's company in a fun, social atmosphere.

"There's great food and entertainment, as well as the excitement and suspense as the winners are announced."

These awards are only possible with the unwavering support of major sponsors such as Bxnetworking and support sonsors Service NSW and Canberra Southern Cross Club with The Canberra Times as media partners.

"Their generous support and encouragement of the awards demonstrates their commitment to the community and the continued success of local business," Mr Loe added.

"Our sponsors' generous commitment has been a major contributor to the outstanding number of nominations that were received."
