If you're in the business of property management, you most likely understand the diverse nature of the sector. Indeed, the more Canberra's landscape changes, the less strata management need stay the same.

That is why Vantage Strata have brought a commercially-minded approach to managing local communities, redefining the way we progress our city's property services sector.

Representing a new era of strata management services, Vantage Strata work within the flexible scaffolding of a unique corporate structure, enabling their business to offer a novel professional services model approach that prioritises not only physical properties, but also the people at the heart of our communities.

In October this innovative model was rewarded, with Vantage Strata being named Strata Management Business of the Year for the second time, in recognition of their dedication to reshaping the sector to ensure that people can live, work and conduct business within their community with ease.

Speaking to the company's recent win, Managing Director Chris Miller said that the recognition has fuelled their desire to develop their management model further, in keeping with the ever-changing property times.

"It is wonderful to be recognised with awards and accolades from our contemporaries, [though] it does not change much in terms of executing our plan to transform the industry. There is still a great deal of work to be done, including legislation reform, educating the market and lifting professional standards," Mr Miller said.

Setting out to disrupt the strata management industry at their time of launch, Vantage Strata has reworked the outdated approach of the old school strata manager.

Generally, it is expected that strata management professionals understand the technicalities of facilities management, although skill development in this area is not a prominent feature of training.

Vantage Strata believe this can lead to poor outcomes for Owners Corporations, and instead take a holistic approach to the administrative side of strata management and how it links to the built environment.

"When we started Vantage Strata we wanted to introduce a professional services business model to what has been traditionally a cottage industry. Our focus was to treat complicated buildings in the same way that an institutional property owner would manage an office building, which includes an intimate knowledge of the buildings operations and an understanding of stakeholders' needs," Mr Miller said.

Initially focusing on large, multipurpose buildings, Vantage Strata soon identified a market for enhanced management of medium-sized residential developments, which Mr Miller says require as much need for a commercially-minded management approach as larger platform precincts.
