But he's hoping a rugby league-mad Papua New Guinea gives them a boost ahead of their final game.
The Canberra Raiders second-rower is in Port Moresby for the Lions final Test of the year - against the Kumuls on Saturday.
So far it's been a winless tour for Great Britain, who had high hopes after England made the final of the World Cup in 2017.
But they've lost to Tonga and both their Tests against New Zealand.
It's seen pressure mount on Lions coach Wayne Bennett, who has said his team have "gone backwards" on tour.
Whitehead's one of four Raiders in the squad, along with star hooker Josh Hodgson, John Bateman and George Williams - although Bennett hasn't picked the latter yet.
The 30-year-old felt they'd been disappointing so far.
They've got one final chance for a win - against a PNG side they're expected to beat.
"We have been disappointing and we've probably let ourselves down so we've got one more game to play and hopefully we can get that win," Whitehead said.
"We've got a lot to fix up, but I'm sure we're capable of doing that."

While they're playing against the Kumuls, you wouldn't have known it from the reception they got when they landed in Port Moresby on Tuesday.
They were greeted by hundreds of fans and were given a police escort from the airport.
PNG is rugby league mad.
Whitehead hoped it would provide the Lions a boost going into their final game.
"It's their national game here and we want to put a good performance in for them," he said.
"Them showing their support by coming to the airport really buzzes us up a little bit and we've got a bit of energy going into this week now."
It's the Lions' first trip to PNG since 1996, when they won 32-30 in Lae.
A couple of the squad members - second-rowers Joe Philbin and Jack Hughes - were part of the England Knights' tour that played two games in there last year.
The Knights are England's development squad.
Whitehead has spoken to them about the trip and was expecting a great atmosphere come game day, along with big crowds at training.
"We've got a good squad and hopefully we can put a good performance in for the locals," he said.
"They deserve to have some good rugby games here and hopefully we can put that performance in and they're all cheering."
We have been disappointing and we've probably let ourselves down.
