Two homers from Cavalry veteran Kyle Perkins and a quality start from pitcher Philip Pfeifer helped Canberra back up its opening day win from Thursday night to go a perfect 2-0 to start the season.
Pfeifer dominated the Melbourne line-up, striking out four and conceding eight hits through six innings of work.
Canberra's Gavin Cecchini and Zach Wilson both notched RBIs in the early innings before centre fielder Taylor Kohlwey went deep on a full count in the bottom of the fourth to open up a 3-0 lead for Canberra.
A three-run Perkins bomb to left field in the bottom of the fifth blew to scoreline out to 6-0.
The Aces threatened a mini revival against Pfeifer in the sixth on the back of RBI singles to Delmon Young and Kodai Sano to reduce the deficit to four.
But Japanese recruit Shinichi Ohnuki and Canberra stalwart Steven Kent allowed a combined one hit from the bullpen over the final three innings to cement the victory.
Perkins capped his great outing with a lead-off homer in the eighth to take his RBI total for the game to four.
Game three starts at 7pm at The Fort on Saturday, with the final game at 1pm on Sunday.
