CatholicCare's CHOICES Services have been delivering disability and mental health services to the Canberra community for over 50 years.

With a range of services on offer, CHOICES is able to support individuals with an NDIS plan to coordinate and utilise their plan, maintain independent living through Supported Independent Living and support with daily activities as well as to engage in social and skill development activities.

In addition, CatholicCare's speech therapist, counsellors and psychologists work with individuals to achieve the therapeutic goals set out in their plans.

CatholicCare is committed to supporting individuals to engage with and build relationships with their peers as a way of combating social isolation and promoting inclusion.

In January, 2020 CatholicCare will officially open Tenison Woods House in O'Connor and will be offering a range of group activities from this new tailored location.

With a focus on creating safe spaces for people to come together, share their strengths and skills, learn new skills and develop friendships, CatholicCare's vision for Tenison Woods is that it becomes a hub of activity and connection for our community.

Activities such as yoga and mindfulness, board games and mind games, music and art will be facilitated by CatholicCare staff and specialist facilitators to make up a calendar of activities which will be available for individuals to choose from and engage with.

Hands On Studio, that are finalists in the 2019 Chief Ministers Inclusion Awards, has been providing a space for artists with a disability to practise and share their art for over 25 years.

The classes include painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture and are taught with a person centered approach giving the students the opportunity to work independently or in collaboration with their peers and tutor.

Hands On Studio will continue to operate out of the M16 Art Space in Griffith, and they are excited to announce the opening of a second studio located within Tenison Woods.

The opening of this second studio will create space for a further 10 classes a week for individuals to access and provide the opportunity for artists of all abilities to practise and share their art.

CatholicCare will be launching cooking classes in the purpose-built training kitchen at Tenison Woods. Equipped with individual cooking stations, classes will be held focusing not only on skill development, but on social engagement and connection, with a dining room to share meals with peers.

CatholicCare is excited to be opening this new space and looks forward to the opportunity it creates for more engagement and connection with the community.

If you are interested in attending any of the groups or booking classes please contact CatholicCare's CHOICES Services on 6163 7600.
