Sharing Places Inc provides community access and social participation support (day services) for adults aged from 18 years who have high and complex support needs.
The organisation supports individuals to achieve self-determination in all matters important to them and strives to remove barriers which prevent people from participating fully within the community.
Individual plans are developed which include strategies and skills development against goals from a range of learning domains.
Their vision is "a society where everyone has dignity and is valued" and their mission is "To provide opportunities and support people with disability to achieve their own goals and aspirations, improve their wellbeing and reach their full potential".
Sharing Places Inc has recently developed a café skills development program aimed at providing people with opportunities to participate in work activities and develop skills in work environments.
These skills will then be transferable to supported employment or volunteering opportunities.
As with any café, there are many and varied duties for people to be involved in.
This includes making hot drinks, baking, taking orders and liaising with customers, developing social and communication skills, purchasing equipment and consumables, developing and creating menus, cleaning duties, and interior design and maintenance.
The new program, along with all other Sharing Places programs and activities, has been developed on the basis of their support principles of growing relationships, having valued social roles, contributing, and sharing ordinary places in the community.
Sharing Places Inc - a place where ordinary people come together to achieve extraordinary results.
