Folau has divided opinion for the past 12 months, first making headlines when he posted homophobic remarks on social media.

It led to Rugby Australia and the NSW Waratahs tearing up his lucrative contract, and the former cross-code star is now seeking $14 million in compensation.

His war with Rugby Australia officials has angered many in rugby circles, but his comments about the bushfires being a sign of God's judgement sparked widespread condemnation.

Folau posted a video on Saturday morning and was asked 'are natural disasters sent by God?'

"What I was referring to in terms of the natural disasters that are happening now wasn't a direct, I guess, message to the people that are affected," Folau said.

"In actual fact, it was just a timely reminder of God's word and trying to point people on to the path of righteousness."

He added: "In saying that, my thoughts and prayers do go out to the people affected. It's horrible to see and you never want to see anyone go through that sort of stuff.

"As a Christian, you always pray for people. You see the droughts today, you're praying for rain and for things to be restored. That's ultimately as Christians what we're driven by and bound by - God's love."

Folau and his legal team will attend a mediation session with Rugby Australia on Monday.

Folau, a talented try-scoring fullback, claims he should be compensated for a loss of earnings on the basis he could have become the Australian captain.

Court documents also claim a senior Wallabies player warned coaches sacking Folau would cause a rift in the team.
