December 16: Not Very Quiet Presents: Women and non-binary poets and poetry lovers are invited to share poems about or by the women who inspire them or to celebrate the impending end of the year with end-of-days or holiday poems. Smith's Alternative, 7pm. $10/$5.

December 16: Jacqui Malins (Mother Tongue Multilingual Poetry) will launch Christopher Nailer's new bilingual (English and Chinese) collection, The China Cabinet and Other Poems, at Smiths Alternative at 5.30pm.
December 20: Summer WordPlay in the Ferguson Room, Level 1, National Library of Australia has a range of family activities and games for families these school holidays - stories from the collection, drawing, games and puzzles. For ages four and up, must be accompanied by an adult. On until February 2, 10am to 4pm (closed Christmas Day). Free, no bookings required.
December 23: That Poetry Thing is celebrating its second birthday and having its Christmas party with poetry from New Zealand's Ivy Alvarez. Smith's Alternative, 76 Alinga Street, Civic, 7-9pm. $5 entry for all, all open mic.
