1. Murder mystery
Do you have what it takes to catch a killer? Or maybe you've just watched too much Midsomer Murders or have become a little obsessed with Sherlock Holmes? Put those detective skills to good use when CluedUpp comes to Canberra this weekend. The event turns the capital into a giant Cluedo board and transports participants to 1960s London as they try to solve the double murder of the Kray twins. Saturday. Start times from 10am and 1pm. 2. Treasure hunt
Everyone loves a treasure hunt, but this one comes with a slight twist. This time around your hunting for some of the best public artworks around the city. Head to Garema Place this Saturday, find Claire and Pablo from PeopleLab and collect your treasure map and art label. The map will help you find the art that matches your label which, once you find your treasure, you can stick the label next to it. Sunday, 11am-3pm. Garema Place. Free.
3. The sound of Christmas
What's an Australian Christmas without Carols by Candlelight? The 75th Canberra Carols by Candlelight is on this Saturday at Stage 88 so warm up those vocal chords for a night of singing and Christmas spirit. The evening will feature the sounds of the Woden Valley Youth Choir and Canberra City Band as well as special guest artists and MC Ian McLean. This year's event supports the Anglicare Youth Engagement program for Indigenous young people in the Canberra region. The program provides scholarships to enable young people to complete their secondary schooling and go on to further studies. Saturday, 7-9.30pm. Free event.
4. Merry markets
Celebrate Christmas the Russian way this weekend. The Russian Christmas Bazaar returns for another year offering Russian food like pelmeni, piroshki, borsch and tortes as well as performances by the Canberra Slavic Choir. There will also be stalls selling Georgian wine and Russian vodka, Slavic gifts with a twist, Orthodox Christian jewellery, books, leather goods and Babooshka's kitchen jams and preserves. Saturday, 10am-2pm. The Russian Orthodox Church Hall, Narrabundah. Free event.
5. Festive feast
Start the silly season (and the festive grazing) at Pialligo Estate's Christmas High Tea. With all of the Christmas indulgence and none of the stress of organising, it really is a great way to catch up with loved ones this festive season. There will be decadent festive cakes, mini pastries, finger sandwiches, scones and more. Along with freshly brewed teas, there's a Christmas cocktail on arrival. Sunday, 11am or 2pm.
