ACT police say the woman, who was driving a blue Toyota Corolla, crashed into the front yard of a home on Hingston Close in Bonython just before 1pm on Monday.
The woman was arrested by police and breath tested, returning a blood-alcohol reading of 0.315, more than six times the legal limit.
The woman's licence was suspended on the spot.
The crash happened just metres away from Bonython Primary School.
ACT Policing officer in charge of traffic operations, Detective Station Sergeant Marcus Boorman, said he was shocked by Monday's incident.
"The legal alcohol limit for a full licence-holder is 0.05 and driving at that level of intoxication is dangerous," he said.
"To even think about getting behind the wheel when you're more than six times that level, well, it beggars belief.
"This driver crashed her car in someone else's front yard, 10 metres from the footpath, but it could have been worse. The house is next door to a primary school. Imagine what could have happened."
ACT police have urged Canberrans not to drink and drive over Christmas and the New Year.
During December 2018 and January 2019, police charged 205 people for drink driving and 166 for drug driving.
Detective Station Sergeant Boorman said police would be ramping up operations ahead of the festive season.
"Police don't want to see anyone seriously injured or killed on our roads due to poor decision making at a Christmas party or get together," he said.
"If you drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, you not only risk your life but the lives of other road users."
