POP Canberra has had two pop-up shops open since November 1, in Lonsdale Street in Braddon, and Allara Street in the city. And both are going gangbusters, says co-founder Gabe Trew.
"It's just been absolutely amazing, out of control," he said.
"When we get here in the morning, there's lines and there's still lines at 11 o'clock at night. It's wonderful that people are responding to it. It's cool."
Gabe, with Mikhaila Pennell, co-founded Pop Canberra, opening first last year at New Acton.
They wanted something that was different to the usual shopping experience.
They had a "disdain for traditional retail and the excessive consumption of bulk produced commercial goods and never ending sales slogans".
The shops contains 120 brands, the items designed, created, or made in Canberra.
"We [wanted] a shop that only sells local products, has a fun vibe and is set up in an eye catching and creative way that is curated and designed with the customer in mind', Gabe said.
Gabe says the top three items this Christmas, so far, have been:
- The Canberra Distillery's French Earl Grey Gin;
- LLL Designs earrings and
- Lucian candles.
Gabes says Pop Canberra will return later next year but some other "exciting announcements" are also in the works.
Pop Canberra is open every day until 10pm until December 31 at 27 Lonsdale Street and 33 Allara Street.
