But United's hopes of maintaining hosting rights could be thrown into disarray if the smoke haze hovering over the city continues to wreck havoc.

United were slated to host Sydney at McKellar Park on Sunday, but the forecast of hazardous air quality forced W-League officials to postpone the match.

FFA and club officials will begin discussions surrounding the rescheduled clash on Monday, with the governing body hoping to finalise a fixture in the coming week.

Officials are racing the clock to find a suitable time slot with only six rounds remaining in the regular season.

Canberra has two byes remaining in round 10 and 14, while Sydney's fall in rounds nine and 11.

The match could be relocated to Sydney if the air quality in Canberra remains hazardous, but United would have to agree.

It means the club would lose a vital home match as they push to break their three-year finals drought.

The entire squad relocated to Sydney this weekend for three training sessions at Football NSW's facilities at Valentine Park, having lost vital preparation time in the capital.

United return to the capital on Sunday night to resume their preparations leading into round nine. The W-League side will face the undefeated Melbourne City in Broadmeadows on Thursday.

The facilities at the AIS and University of Canberra, where United train, have been closed. Players are due to return to training on Tuesday, in what would be their last home session before flying to Melbourne.

"The past month has not been easy, especially with preparation, getting the team on the park and doing what you want to do from a periodisation point of view," Garriock said.

"They've adapted really well. We don't have any excuses, we just have to make do.

"Everyone is in the same situation. When we talk about it and when we have to adapt, we reflect on all the people, volunteers and the RFS who are actually fighting the fires and those who are losing homes.

"For that, we're grateful to be able to play a sport we're passionate about and we're thinking of those people less fortunate than us."

The W-League will dedicate the next two rounds to bushfire and drought relief, raising funds to support disaster relief services.
