The ACT was set to lose one store and it was announced on Tuesday it would be the Dickson store, according to Deloitte Restructuring Services, which is managing the receivership.

The Fyshwick, Belconnen and Tuggeranong stores will continue trading as normal. A total of 44 stores will continue trading nationally.

The Dickson Harris Scarfe employs 14 people in full-time, part-time and casual capacities.

Canberra's three remaining stores may offer redeployment possibilities for Dickson staff.

Approximately 88 full-time, 128 part-time and 224 casual positions would be affected nationally. Approximately 1380 jobs remain at the 44 stores continuing to trade.

Deloitte Restructuring Services partner Vaughan Strawbridge said the move to close stores was a difficult decision but necessary to position the Harris Scarfe business for a successful sale.

"All efforts are being made to redeploy affected staff around the rest of the store network, and all staff that leave the business will receive all wages and entitlements in full on the closure of individual stores," Mr Strawbridge said.

"Our review of the store network included a range of factors, including past and likely future profitability.

"Going forward, we certainly remain focused on running the broader store network and selling the business as the best outcome for remaining employees and suppliers."

It was announced in December that Harris Scarfe had been placed in voluntary administration.
