The ACT Meteors captain's pregnant sister-in-law Erin had been diagnosed with breast cancer, already with a two-year-old girl to think about.

"It was pretty scary at the time. I was actually living with [brother] Sean and Erin at the time, they had a two-year-old girl Laila, who is now six," Osborne said.

"There was obviously a big decision being made about whether they keep the baby [she was pregnant with] at the time, which they ended up doing.

"She had chemo and radiation but managed to keep her little boy. It was a difficult time for the family.

"She received a lot of support from breast care nurses and was really well looked after in Canberra hospital."

"Little Harlyn is doing quite well, he's three years old and living a normal life which is great."

People like Erin are the reason the Tuggeranong cricket club, with whom Osborne and her brother have long been involved, is doing its part.

Tuggeranong will hold a pink stumps day in their Cricket ACT Twenty20 Cup clash with Western District at Chisholm Oval on Thursday.

Funds raised will be split between the McGrath Foundation and the bushfire relief appeal in a display Osborne says makes the club "more than just a cricket club, it's a family".

Tuggeranong will wear pink uniforms in their bid to make a difference with captain Shane Devoy set to lead his side into a game - provided the rain holds off - which transcends cricket.

"It's something everybody is quite conscious of. If you ask enough people, you'll find someone who has been affected by cancer in some way," Devoy said.

"For our club with the connections we've got there with people who have suffered and come out the other side, it's a nice feeling for us to be able to give back.

"With the bushfire disaster over the past couple of months, we wanted to stay true to the initial fundraising idea we had but also see if we could help out anyone affected by the fires."

Tuggeranong have already thrown their weight behind those affected by the bushfire appeal with a donation drive which garnered thousands of bottles of water, food and daily essentials.

It was enough to leave former player Adam Blacka stunned as he continues a hectic period at work for the Bega Valley Shire council trying to get water systems back online.

"The list of things, from water bottles to blankets and stuff like that, it's going to help so many people out," Blacka said.

"It's incredible, what they've done. It's unbelievable how many people got behind it, that's the biggest thing. Watching them load trucks up full of stuff, there were 50 people there and not just two or three. It was the whole club, so it was pretty amazing to see."
