An unbeaten Staines century steered Wests to a first innings win over previously unbeaten Weston Creek Molonglo in the Cricket ACT Douglas Cup at Stirling Oval on Saturday.
Staines brought up his 100 from 154 balls before Wests opted to declare at 4-277 and bring the match to a close having already passed Creek's 242.
The win sees Wests make ground on the ladder leaders as they push to earn a home semi-final with three rounds remaining in the regular season.
Creek are poised to launch a push for a treble having already claimed the one-day crown with the Twenty20 finals coming in a fortnight.
But Wests are just one side standing in their way.
"That's our potential. We can knock anybody over, it's just if we play [well enough]," Staines said.

"If someone in our top four goes on and obviously if we bowl well [we're a chance]. The top four did a really good job this week.
"It's good to spend a bit of time out there, and obviously a hundred is a pretty good achievement. I'll take it when it comes but it's good to get the win as well.
"It was set up by our bowlers last week, bowling them out for 242 on that pitch, which is pretty nice to bat on. Today we were lucky enough to get a few away.
"They're a quality opposition and they'll definitely play finals, they'll be up there pushing for a grand final spot. It's good to get a convincing win over them.
"We've got Twenty20 finals in a couple of weeks, so hopefully we go alright there and then hopefully we'll make the finals for the two-day stuff and go on with it."
Meanwhile, ANU secured first innings points against Eastlake to secure their place inside the top four in a huge boost to their finals aspirations.
It maintains a buffer between ANU and fifth-placed Queanbeyan after they knocked over Tuggeranong thanks to Dean Solway's 147.
Ginninderra claimed the spoils over North Canberra-Gungahlin with a first innings win.
