2. On stage
SoundOut Festival returns for its 11th year, bringing with it the explorative sonic arts experience that it has become known for. The mix of improvisational, jazz and experimental music promises to explore the unknown and unravel music as we know it. The artists from Australia, Austria, Canada, Germany, Netherlands and the United Kingdom will combine, mix, cross-fertilize, and move sound mountains to inspire inquiring ears. Saturday-Sunday, 1pm-11.30pm. Drill Hall Gallery. Tickets from $22.19 from Eventbrite.
3. The sound of silence
Dami Im heads to the National Museum of Australia's By The Water Concert this weekend. Im will be supported by country music singer and fellow X-Factor alumnus Caitlyn Shadbolt. Saturday, 7pm. Tickets from $59.11 from Eventbrite. Current members of the Rural Fire Service will get up to two free tickets when they show their RFS ID. Bookings can be made at Eventbrite.
4. Pun-demonium
Do you like a good pun? Or better yet, do you like a bad pun? Head to Smith's Alternative this weekend when Capital Punishment returns, this time with the theme of alcohol. Capital Punishment is a competitive pun slam, challenging people to seize the microphone and fill up two minutes with the best puns they can muster. The winner will be crowned lord of the puns and will get a $50 bar tab. Friday, 7pm. Tickets are $10 for viewers, and free for competitors, from smithsalternative.com.
5. Get out and explore
See what the Murrumbidgee Discovery Trail has to offer this weekend with a group hike. The return hike is about six to seven kilometres - depending on how people are feeling midway - and will take hikers from the Point Hut Crossing Reserve to Pine Island. The tracks are grade two which means it's suitable for most ages and fitness levels and is relatively flat. The hike will also include nutritious snakes and the help of bushwalking guide Candi May. Saturday, 8am. Tickets are $20.08 from Eventbrite.
