Holding a bunch of flowers and wearing her winner's sash, Ms Castles had been judged the pick of the contenders at the annual show the night before.

The news reported the federal minister for Shipping and Transport, Ian Sinclair, was due to wed former Miss Australia Rosemary Fenton near Tamworth.
Miss Fenton, the 1961 Miss Australia had been working as a model and with the June Dally-Watkins School of Etiquette.
The interest of the media and public in the relationship was intense, so much so that Ms Fenton "was rushed through the TAA terminal at Kingsford Smith Airport ... less than a minute before scheduled flight time".
"Even the minister who will conduct the wedding was sworn to secrecy."
Mr Sinclair's first wife was the former Sydney journalist Margaret Tarrant, who had died in 1967 of brain cancer.
