1. Mystify
One of Australia's most beloved musical exports Michael Hutchence will be in focus at the National Film and Sound Archive this weekend, with a showing of Mystify: Michael Hutchence. The documentary has woven together a collection of archival footage - including Hutchence's home movies and those of his lovers, friends and family, to share the many sides of the singer. Director Richard Lowenstein will also join the archive for a Q&A after the film. Friday, 6pm. Tickets are $12 from nfsa.gov.au.
2. Bookish
It's been part of the fabric of Canberra's landscape for decades and it returns for another year this weekend. The Lifeline Bookfair heads to Exhibition Park this weekend, bringing with it thousands of items to raise money for the charity's Canberra crisis support centre. As well as books for sale, there will be DVDs, CDs, vinyl records, puzzles, board games, sheet music, comics, maps, magazines and more for prices as low as 50 cents. Friday, 9am-6pm, Saturday, 9am-5pm and Sunday, 10am-4pm. Entry is by gold coin donation.
2. The Green Machine
Are you bleeding green? The Canberra Raiders Fan Day on Saturday is your first chance this year to meet the new players, hear from the coach, and watch the team train for the 2020 season. The day kicks off with squad training at 9am, and includes a merch store, face-painting, a photo booth and everything a mad fan would want. Go Canberra! February 8, from 9am at Raiders Belconnen.
4. There will be no intermission
Amanda Palmer will bring her third solo LP, There Will Be No Intermission, to Canberra this weekend. The release has been described as the artists' most powerful and personal collection to date, with songs tackling the big questions of life, death, grief and how to make sense of it all. The touring show itself will be stripped back and will feature Palmer on solo piano and ukulele, with no band accompaniment. Friday, 7.30pm. Canberra Theatre Centre. 5. Bushfire relief
There's no denying that the summer has been a tough one for many people, with bushfires burning more than four million hectares of the country. Hotel Queanbeyan is hosting one of the many fundraisers which have resulted from the devastation, this weekend. During the event, there will be a raffle, live music and a live auction. All funds will go towards the New South Wales Rural Fire Services, particularly the Palerang and South Coast regions. Saturday, 2.30-6.30pm. Free event.
