After fears the event wouldn't be held until 2021, organisers say the TRYathlon will go ahead on Sunday, March 29.
The event will remain at the Australian Institute of Sport, its original location.
"As luck would have it, the weekend's significant rain has changed the long-range air quality forecasts which enabled us to secure a new date for the event," a spokeswoman said.
More than 1500 kids between six and 15 were booked in to compete in the event on February 8, before it was cancelled at the last minute due to poor air quality caused by months of bushfire smoke.
Participants were promised full refunds.
The spokeswoman said emails had been sent to all registered participants advising them of the date change.
Those who are unable to attend on the new date can request a refund.
All existing registrations will be transferred to the new date.
The TRYathlon consists of an indoor swim followed by a cycle and run with distances depending on participants' ages.
The event has been held in Canberra since 2002.
