It is hoped the announcement will bring to a close a years-long saga which began in 2018 when it was announced the hospital's pool would close.

The government ultimately pledged to keep the pool open until a south side alternative could be found after push back from users.

Arthritis ACT chief executive Rebecca Davies said it had been a very difficult period but she was pleased to have found a resolution.

"We've come up with what we believe is the best outcome we can find, knowing it is only an interim arrangement and in a few years' time hopefully we have a better longer-term solution," she said.

"There are some who are really still quite upset - they would like to stay at Canberra Hospital and we'll continue to work with those people and bring them across and hopefully show our ongoing care and compassion to them."

About 500 people from the group are currently using the Canberra Hospital pool.

Health Minster Rachel Stephen-Smith said she recognised not everyone would be happy with the outcome but was pleased to be able to provide certainty for short-term arrangements.

"We have worked very closely with Arthritis ACT to find the most practical solution. This new agreement ensures services will be provided in a safer and more reliable facility while we work towards a longer-term solution," she said.

Services will be available at Aqua Harmony in Kambah from March 2 after the government committed $305,000 to Arthritis ACT over three years to deliver an additional 688 hydrotherapy sessions with two qualified staff in attendance.

Canberra Hospital pool was originally slated to close when the new University of Canberra Hospital in Bruce opened in 2018.

The government said the Woden pool was too old and expensive to maintain, and demand could be managed through the Bruce pool.

But Arthritis ACT and users said the pool would not meet their needs for access and it was too difficult for some to travel to.

A market sounding to provide a new hydrotherapy pool in Canberra's south was due to close on Friday.

Opposition Health Spokeswoman Vicki Dunne said the announcement was nothing more than a stop gap that didn't meet the needs of the hundreds of people who use the Canberra Hospital pool.

"This is a non-solution that will leave many with reduced services," she said.

"The ACT government knows there is work being done in the community to fix this problem, They need to facilitate a new hydrotherapy service on the southside."
